Evaluation of study â€Å"There is little difference between conducting an evaluation of study for a training program and conducting a research study to determine the effects of any intervention that is tried in an organization† (Specter, 2008). The training program is not considered completed unt il it has been evaluated. There are five stages in performing a training evaluation. The first step is to define the criteria for evaluation. There are several criteria to determine. One of the criteria is the training- level criteria and the other is the performance- level criteria. The training level is directed to what was learned and the performance level is directed with the levels of effectiveness. It is also possible to brake down criteria into four groups. The four smaller levels include reactions, behaviors, learning, and results and are sub levels to performance and training levels. Second a design of the study must be selected. The structure of the study is determined by how the data is collected. Third the measures used to assess need to be determines. Fourth the data needs to be collected. The third and fourth steps are two steps preformed at the same time. Collecting data can be without bias can be a difficult task and following the measuring criteria is vital for accurate results. The final step is analyzing the collected data to determine a conclusion. The conclusion will tell the effectiveness of the training program. An evaluation carried out properly will generate valuable information on the training program’s effectiveness. Conclusion When selecting and training employees there are various forms that can improve performance such as; training assessments, employee evaluations, and consulting. Once a foundation was completed more in depth surveys, personality interviews, questionnaires, skills tests would ensure that the job is filled with the most suitable person to perform the job. Industrial and organizational psychologist can assist the corporation to stay within the law while completing training which keeps both the employee and employer safe from bias, sexism, discrimination, and racism. Evaluating a training program can provide tremendous benefits when the data is properly analyzed. Man, the State and War by Kenneth Waltz

In the end Waltz states that the only method of resolving the current dilemma of war is if a single world government was to be created which addresses the individual concerns of each state. Unfortunately such a situation requires each state to give up their much vaunted â €Å"sovereignty† which would be highly unlikely resulting in peace being applicable in theory however being unattainable in practice (Waltz, 2001). Examination of the Veracity of the Sources Utilized When going through the entirety of the text it can be seen that Waltz synthesized the views of Hobbes, Mills, Rosseau, Kant, Spinoza, Kant, Smith and a variety of other known experts in the field of international relations in order to formulate the arguments present within his book. The sheer amount of views and in-text lifting from other authors lends the work a certain degree of veracity in terms of the accuracy of the arguments and how they conform to current methods of thinking regarding the current state of conflict within international relations and its origins. Yet, despite this abundance of literature it must be noted that Waltz fails to â€Å"think out of the box† so to speak when it comes to examining the causes of war and instead single mindedly focuses on the â€Å"images of international relations† that he had brought up at the start of the text as the main causes of war. There are other factors that he neglected to take into consideration such as religion (which was why the historic crusades were started and one of the contributing factors behind the ongoing conflict between Israel and several Arab states), ethnicities (as seen in the current ethnic conflict between Sunni and Shiite Muslims which has led to various uprisings in the Middle East), economic factors (as seen in the case b etween the U.S. and Japan when the U.S. cut of supplies of much needed resources to Japan which sparked the bombing of Pearl Harbor and brought the U.S. into the Pacific theater), historic alliances (seen in the case of World War 1 wherein the balance of power system and historic alliances in effect brought numerous nations into the war) (Vassalo, 2003). While the book itself is great basis from which one can learn about the origins and causes o f war, it focuses too much on the various arguments of historical thinkers without sufficiently examining other factors which influence the start of wars. Conclusion Overall, it can be stated that the work of Waltz is a great attempt at explaining the origin of war yet, based on the critique of the text, it can be seen that the concept of war is too broad to be defined within the parameters defined by Walsh and constitute far more factors than what was elaborated on. Paulo Freires Concept of Education Free Online Research Papers Paulo Freire has a very interesting point of view in education. He explains his points of view throughout his short story â€Å"The Banking Concept of Education† and throughout his book named Pedagogy of the Oppressed. He argues about the role of the teacher in a banking system. One of the flaws in the banking system would be the authority of the teacher. Another flaw would be the system of rewards. One of the arguments Freire presents against the banking system is that the role of the teacher is to â€Å"fill the students by making deposits of information which he considers to constitute true knowledge. And since men receive the world as passive entities, education should make them more passive still, and adapt them to the world† (63). This is true in the fact that the teacher’s job is to fill the students with information, and this is often accomplished in a way that makes learning passive. What Freire fails to recognize is that these â€Å"lifeless and petrified† words form a solid and practical base of common knowledge. Obviously, you have to know how to count before you can add. You have to know the basic facts before you can think about challenging them. With the average fifth grader, it means very little to tell them that the Revolutionary War occurred in 1776. Most would not prefer to learn this if given the choice. Without the banking system , how would we teach children about a history that is vital to their understanding of the present and the future? You cannot, realistically sit down with a bunch of ten year-olds and expect them to come up with conclusions and opinions about a war that they know nothing about. If they know that war occurred in 1776 and that thousands of people died, at least one will be able to conclude that ‘war is bad’. Another may conclude that ‘war is good because our country was freed’. Here you have the beginnings of a dialogue among students, one that would not have been possible without the banking system. Conversation is not possible without a fair amount of factual knowledge. Facts are good, but the way that facts are taught is not always good. Memorization without meaning is trivial and uninteresting. Students often forget the information when the test is over. This is a serious, fatal flaw in the banking system, as Freire notes. However, this problem cannot be solved by the problem-posing method. Often, a fact is a fact and is not open to debate. It would be interesting to convince people that the sky is green, but it’s not. It’s not open for debate. You cannot plausibly change the color of the sky or the fact that two and two are four. Topics that are open for debate, such as the existence of God, should be thought about and debated. It will be worthwhile to hear different opinions and maybe change your own opinion. So the question remains. How should we teach? By saying that â€Å"this is true, accept it†? No, not always. Nor should we say, â€Å" let’s discuss the possibility that two and two are three†, which is pointless, not worthwhile, and leads nowhere but to a map of confusion about a basic, trivial concept. If Tommy, with his grand thoughts and conclusions, wants to think that two and two are three, the teacher would be wrong to let him. He should not be allowed to finish school stuck on this grand, but pointless idea. To do so would be harmful to Tommy and school would lose its meaning. The authority of the teacher, as Freire notes, is another flaw in the banking system: â€Å"The teacher presents himself to his students as their necessary opposite; by considering their ignorance absolute, he justifies his own existence† (58-59). True, the teacher is seen as an authority, both in action and in knowledge, and this doesn’t leave much room for inquiry. In an example that I recall from fifth grade, my class was learning about government when a student asked the teacher (a White man), â€Å"Can the President ever be a woman?† The teacher hesitated and said, â€Å"Yes, a woman can be President.† Another student asked, â€Å"Can the President ever be Black?† He answered, â€Å"Yes, but it is unlikely.† The same student asked, â€Å"Can anybody be the President?† â€Å"Not anybody†, he replied. â€Å"Who can’t?† The teacher cleared his throat and said, â€Å"The President has always been an old er White man. We should keep it like that.† The conversation ended. Even though most of the students were girls and all were Black, no one challenged him further. This is an extremely unfortunate characteristic of the banking system, one that should be given serious thought. It is regrettable that we had to hear such a thing from a trusted individual, but having an adult in a classroom with children will inevitably lead to this. Adults are generally looked upon as knowledgeable authorities, in just about any situation. At home, parents are the experts that the children look to for guidance. The parents, in return, give children guidance and fix their scrapes until they learn how to fix their own. Whenever there is an adult in the presence of children, this will happen inevitably. The teacher, the â€Å"Great Oppressor†, isn’t forcing the children to be submissive. Rather they expect knowledge and guidance from an adult. The problem-posing method will not change this. You can call a teacher by his first name, decrease he distance, but an adult in the class will not be seen as an equal to the students. Removing the teache r from the classroom will not help either. Another flaw Freire presents is the system of rewards in the banking system. He notes, â€Å"The more completely he fills the receptacles, the better a teacher he is. The more meekly the receptacles permit themselves to be filled, the better students they are† (58). Sadly, this is true at all levels of education. The entire system of letter and number grades and standardized testing enforces this. We usually don’t like to admit this, (there have been numerous times that I have been reminded that standardized tests don’t measure your true knowledge), but we have them anyway and consider the results significant. Realistically speaking, this system of rewards extends far beyond education. It is extremely evident in the professional and social fields, among others. In American culture, numbers and output are what matter. This may not be ideal and it may be unfair and narrow, but it is true. This has been so deeply ingrained into American culture that we don’t know of any other way to do comparison. Student A never does any work, never puts forth effort, and has failed every exam, but he’s an excellent thinker. Whether or not to give him a passing grade is debatable. Student B does all the work, puts forth effort, and has passed every exam, so he must be thinking. We do not hesitate to give him a passing grade. We do not know of anything else to do. Arguably, being a receptacle does take a great deal of effort and sacrifice for most students. And in this society it is the latter student who is most valued and is perceived as most prepared. It is only fair to prepare s tudents for the type of society that they will enter. Until society is dramatically changed and we develop a new way of comparison, it is an injustice to dramatically change the system of rewards in the educational system. Yes, I believe that the banking system has its flaws, but in all honesty, I believe it is a necessary element of education. Education itself is far too complicated to consist of one method of teaching and learning. Students need versatility. They should not solely be told facts or solely allowed to challenge and question. Perhaps being part receptacle and part challenger is the best, or perhaps it is some different combination altogether. But certainly, one cannot depend on the flawed banking system or the unrealistic problem-posing method alone. This wing designed to carry shear, bending and torsional loads. Box beam structures incorporate skin panels, which are stressed only to take shear forces, but also the end load due to bending. From the point of view of fail-safe design and stressed skin structure is much better than the mass boom type. (Torenbeek.E ,1999, p260) This method is more suitable for aircraft wings with medium to high load intensities and differs from the mass boom concept in that the upper and lower skins also contribute to the span wise bending resistance. Another difference is that the concept incorporates span wise stringers to support the highly-stressed skin panel area. BENDING MOMENT REDUCTION OF THE WING The bending-moment is the force at each location on the spar that bends the wing upward during normal non-inverted flight, the force rotating the wing around the fuselage. The bending-moment is zero at the wing-tip and maximum at the root. But its value is not proportional across the span. In other words, it is not half as much at the wing mid-point as it is at the root. In fact, the mid-point bending-moment is only about a 1/4 of the root value. Therefore if we reduce the weight of the aircraft by using light material it can reduce the maximum bending moment on the wing root. Also the wing span is proportional to bending moment; the bending moment can be reduced by reducing the wing span of the aircraft. Wing with high aspect ratio with entire swept box structure wing moves towards the root and therefore forward of the aircraft. Then in order to maintain balance smaller wing lift and larger tail plane lift will be required. The inboard shift in the lift will decrease the wing root bending moment. When engines are mounted on the wings, their weight is obviously going to be borne by the wing structure, along with inertia loads as the aircraft maneuvers. Thrust forces from the engines will also be carried by the wings. With pod-mounted engines the thrust force is bellow the wing and so this tends to twist the wing. This can be used to balance the effect of the aerodynamics of the wing which creates a nose down pitching moment. Another advantage of wing mounted engines is that their weight is close to the area in which lift is produce. This reduces the total fuselage reducing the shear force and bending moment at the wing attachment to the fuselage. So putting the engines on the wings provides bending relief. (Wilkinson 2009,p 32) Outboard fuel tanks reduce the wing bending moment. If the landing gear is not mounted under the wing it reduces the wing weight and it also reduce the bending moment of the wing. The thickness is generally given as a ratio of the chord which is referred to as the thickness ratio or the thickness to chord ratio (t/c). An airfoil with a high thickness ratio decrease wing weight since both bending and torsional thickness increase with increasing the thickness. Jack: Almost the Hero of Lord of the Flies Jack Merridew is the devil-like figure in the story, Lord of the Flies. Jack is wicked in nature having no feelings for any living creature. His appearance and behavior intimidates the others from their first encounter. The leading savage, Jack leans more towards hunting and killing and is the main reason behind the splitting of the boys. It has been said that Jack represents the evilness of human nature; but in the end, Jack is almost a hero. With his totalitarian leadership, he was able to organize the group of boys into a useful and productive society From the beginning of the novel Jack intimidates the other boys with his flaming red hair, his long black cape, and the brutal way he shouts orders to his choir. Although he is not a good-looking boy, he is amazingly arrogant. He always has to look good in people's eyes. Not that he cares if people like him, but more that they respect him. The only way he knows how to gain people's admiration is by getting them to fear him. He spots Piggy as an easy target and immediately starts to humiliate him in front of the others: "You're talking too much," said Jack Merridew. "Shut up, Fatty."(21) He sizes up Piggy right from the beginning knowing that Piggy wouldn't stand up to him and by making fun of him he was letting the other boys know that he not one to be messed with. When he feels that people are about to think him to be weak or gutless, he uses his knife as if it were a symbol of his superiority: "Jack slammed his knife into a trunk and looked round challengingly"(33). His knife gives him power, a weapon that he would use against anyone who dares to mock him. He shows early on how he has no sympathy for anyone. For example, when Simon passed out from heat exhaustion on the beach Jack showed no compassion: "Let him alone.He's always throwing a faint."(20) Simon was not a stranger, he was a boy that Jack has spent a great deal of time with and yet he displays no feelings for him at all. He demonstrates a great deal of power over his choir. He orders them around as if they were puppets that he controls by working their strings and making them dance at will.

B Wordsworth

â€Å"B. Wordsworth† is the creation of V. S. Naipaul about the story of a boy and a man who felt like being a poet but, unfortunately, could never be one. As one of the most widely read and perhaps interpreted writers of Caribbean descent, V. S. Naipaul presents a poetic view of the challenges of being part of Caribbean society during that time. It reflects the impact that a foreign culture and a foreign language had upon the natives. Yet, it does not condemn this fact but rather embraces it in an unfamiliar way.The main character, B. Wordsworth, is a tramp, a vagabond who resides in a very simple one room hut that is surrounded by weeds, trees and bushes that are overgrown. He not only lives a life of modesty and simplicity but he also has an unusual appreciation for nature. This is shown by his comments on the stars and during the time when he shows the young boy the different trees. The thing that made him different, however, was the fact that while he was a man of simple means he spoke English in a peculiar, unnatural manner.It is this fact which draws the attention of the young boy and invites the scorn of his mother. A critical analysis of the circumstances and the events that transpire in the story will reveal that there is an internal struggle that the characters have to face. The misplaced English that the boy speaks as compared to the flawless English of B. Wordsworth mirrors the social climate in the Caribbean during that time.This contrast also reveals the irony that exists in the life of not only the boy but also the vagabond as the realization of having a dream but not the capacity to pursue such dawns upon him in the twilight of his years. B. Wordsworth and perhaps the boy who followed his dream wanted to be poets but could never be one. The seemingly poetic language of the boy and the poetic nature of B. Wordsworth show that the poetry existed not in language but in his lifestyle. The magically garden that existed amidst the concrete jun gle is a testament to this but is sadly one that was torn down only to exist in the boys memory.

Reflection of Cannibalistic Societies through Diary of a...

The meager image depicted by Lu Xuns Diary of a Madman projects an illustration of society that stresses submission to authority, and the ultimate compliance to tradition. Lu Xun battles the idea that society is constantly being manipulated and controlled by the masses of people who know no better than to follow tradition. His story Diary of a Madman gives the representation of a culture that has not only failed, but failed by the cannibalistic nature of humans corrupting them-selves over and over again therefore feeding upon themselves. The analysis of Diary of a Madman gives way to a new interpretation of societies of the past, present, and future. The preface of the story begins explaining the story of two male siblings who remain nameless and identity less throug hout the story. The men can be seen as society as a whole, without a name, without an identity, without individuality. Without the individualism of nations, cultures, and people, identity can never be established or characterized.
